City Council 2 June 2020
Invocation offered by Mr. Mike Lanier.
Mayor Wolff called the meeting to order at 6 PM, roll call reflected Council person Skinner was absent, he showed up shortly after that making it a meeting with all members present.
The minutes of previous meetings were approved unanimously.
Mayor’s Report and Comments:
The 4 July celebration has been postponed due to the Covid 19 situation. No further input as to any rescheduling.
Splash pad built at the park, shooting for 16 June as the date to put in operation. Will be discussed at the next meeting.
Opening of the park was discussed. The decision on opening the park did not include the Ever Fun park which will remain closed at this time.
It was recommended Dr. Warren Henry, teacher of quantum physics at M. I. T. and native of Evergreen, have a monument put in place at the depot area in recognition of one of our native sons. Motion by Council person Upton, seconded by Council person Caylor passed unanimously.
Mr. Riley, purchaser of property on Ted Bates Road came before the council discussing and questioning the ordinance dealing with trailer in the city limits. Mr. Riley told the council that, in his opinion, the ordinance was more restrictive and longer than he was accustomed to. He plans to come before the next council meeting to show his plans for the proposed trailer park. Mayor Wolff advised him to check with the Health Department first.
AT&T contract was re-presented for approval. Unanimous approval. The 1 scheduled payment for the 2019 year is to be $57,300.00. For the 2020 year, the payment increases by $25.00.
Update on the underground contract discussed previously is scheduled for presentation at the next council meeting.
Executive Session to discuss business and employment matters. 6:26 PM.
Reconvened 6:50 PM.
Evergreen Courant Newspaper owner Robert Bozeman advised them they were conducting their executive sessions improperly.
After reconvening it was announced the current tenet of the Shrimp Basket desired to transfer their lease to SB City of Evergreen and requested their current debt to the city be forgiven. Motion made, seconded and approved unanimously.
Pay raise for the city clerk received a unanimous vote as did a raise for the Park superintendent.
Approval of Accounts payable: Unanimous approval.
